India-Russia relations have been characterized by long-standing friendship and understanding. The cultural ties between the two peoples have traditionally been very strong and have extended to the capital cities of the two countries. In this context, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Government of Moscow have agreed to organize the "Days of Delhi in Mosow" from 29th to 31st May, 2006. Delhi, the capital of India, combines a strong heritage of classical traditions in the field of music, dance and theatre with achievements in the field of contemporary performing arts. Therefore, the focus of the "Days of Delhi" will be to showcase Delhi’s contemporary phase in the form of the most modern dance and music, while bringing out its roots in traditional classical culture. The culture of the city symbolizes the progress and development that is taking the city forward by leaps and bounds under the dynamic leadership of its Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit.

The Gala Opening of the "Days of Delhi in Mosow" at the International House of Music will be showcasing Ustad Amjad Ali Khan along with his two extremely talented sons Amaan Ali Khan & Ayaan Ali Khan. The best classical tradition of Indian music will be presented by a young maestro of vocal music – Kalapini Komkali.
Apparel Show – 6 p.m.
Indian Apparel Show will be presented in the foyer of the International House of Music showcasing the best of Indian Silks and Traditional Indian Costume – Saree in its most exotic best. Saree is the traditional costume that the contemporary Indian woman wears. The Apparel show will begin at 6.00 pm.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan – 7 p.m. Indian Classical Musician – Instrumental – Sarod
He will be presenting Indian classical music on Sarod - a stringed instrument that has a very lilting quality to its music - in the main Svetlanovsky hall of the House of Music. This typical Indian instrument has been popularized all over the globe by the great master Amjad Ali Khan. His two talented young sons are following his footsteps and have become stars in their own right.
Kalapini Komkali – 7.50 p.m. Indian Classical Musician (Vocal)
Kalapini Komkali is the daughter and disciple of the great musician Pandit Kumar Gandharva and Vidushi Smt. Vasundhara Komkali. Her mellifluous voice is an affirmation of what is called the Gwalior Gayaki of Indian Classical Music, as also of the wholly reconstructed and transformed style that revolutionized Hindustani classical music. Her voice expands slowly the majestic and mystical quality of Indian music, which is at once so meditative and evocative that she is able to transcend the listeners to the highest realms of spiritual experience.
30th May, 2006 Pavel Slobodkin Centre Folk Dances – 7 p.m.
At the Pavel Slobodkin Centre, the best of Indian folk forms from different parts of India would be presented. The show would begin at 7.00 pm. India is a country of extremely diverse cultures and traditions and Delhi being the Capital of India has imbibed it from every part of the country. Therefore, we proudly present the gregarious folk traditions, foot tapping music and some wonderful dancing.

Astad Deboo – Contemporary dance
The pioneer of contemporary Indian dance, Astad Deboo, has combed through world cultures for material for Dance and frutifully combined them with his own Indian classical dance tradition, by bringing experience together to make an art out of them. Astad’s dynamic performance art has attracted critical attention in the world of dance from Pina Bausch of the Wuppertal dance theatre Germany, to Alison Chase of the Pilobolus Dance Company. He was commissioned by Pierre Cardin to choreograph a work on the Bolshoi Ballerina Maia Plisetskaia. His work with the deaf is truly remarkable and path breaking. Astad Deboo’s range is phenomenal, from deeply introspective solo expression to challenging group work. His work has challenged ways of seeing dance in no less than 60 countries.
Aditi Mangaldas – Traditional and contemporary Kathak dance
Aditi Mangaldas has had extensive training in the Indian classical dance form of kathak. Using the strength of this form, she has attempted to carve out a contemporary vocabulary of her own. She has performed in major cities of the world to critical acclaim and is regarded as one of the leading dancers in both the traditional and contemporary idiom. Besides solos, she has choreographed a number of group ensembles, that have been both traditional and contemporary in nature. Her contemporary performances reflect the spirit of Kathak and go beyond it’s form and content to create a new language. Each piece explores the past to create a new future. She studied under Smt. Kumudini Lakhia and Shri Birju Maharaj. She is the principal dancer and choreographer of the Drishtikon Dance Foundation – Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company.
Eupohria Band
Euphoria is a state of mind in hypomania where they say that the creativity is at its best. The band Euphoria has been active for more than a decade now. But it actually started in 1998 when the first album came out. Seven years back HIND ROCK wasn't coined as a phrase or as a hype line, but it is an attitude, an identity, a movement that EUPHORIA took upon themselves to show that sometimes Rock can be Right. It has brought out 4 albums so far:

At the Nekrasov Public Library in Moscow at 2.00 pm on 31st May, 2006, the best of Literary personalities – two poets, a Novelist and a scholar will be reading out verses/passages from their well-known literary works.
Javed Akhtar – a well-known writer and poet in Urdu.
Kailash Vajpeyi – one of the most eminent Indian Poets writing in Hindi
Upmanyu Chatterjee – one of the famous Indian novelist writing in English and known globally.
Alok Rai – a great scholar with full command on English and Hindi Literature besides being the grand son of the literary legend Munshi Prem Chand
The Indian authors will interact and discuss with leading Russian writers and literary figures. A short Indian folk dance performance will also be shown.
